Fairytale Illustrations – part 1

Together with a wonderful group of women from all over the world I started a new project. First we began to write international fairy tales in an associative way inspired by the card game “Once Upon a Time” and our own cards of characters, places or events, that we added to the game. By now three stories are pretty well on their way to being finished. Yesterday we met for a new workshop session at the Nasher Museum of Art in Durham to start with the illustrations for the stories. Cards prepared in advance with ideas for images made it possible for everyone to join in, even if they weren’t involved in the writing in the first place. It is and will remain a very open process, so each woman can choose an illustration topic and fill it with her own personal ideas, techniques, and also cultural preferences during the visualization process.

I love this, Karin. In fact, you can use these collages in the introduction or at the end of the book when we list those in our group and talk about our process.
